The Brookside Recovery Protocol ™
Recovery Through Science & Medicine ™
Brookside Institute is spearheading a new era of addiction and substance abuse treatment programs with a recovery protocol that includes breakthroughs in neuroscience (brainwave analysis), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), medication, and adjunctive therapy. The Brookside Recovery Protocol ™ is unique in its integrated approach, combining multiple disciplines and treatments based on individual needs, to maximize the overall success of a comprehensive protocol.
Complete Assessment
Brookside Institute works closely with you to provide a specialized, science-based treatment program for drug and alcohol addiction that begins with a full medical, social and psychological assessment. Your treatment team, including your physician at Brookside, will create a customized treatment program based on your individualized needs, medical and psychological history.
Neuroscience Center
Based on your physician-directed treatment plan, you will have access to Brookside Institute’s revolutionary NeuroScience Center. The NeuroScience Center is committed to utilizing advanced research, highly trained medical personnel and recent discoveries in science. Beginning with a state-of-the-art brainwave analysis, (EEG - Electroencephalogram), your treatment team will identify areas of the brain which are not functioning at capacity and design the best approach through the latest in non-invasive neuroscience technologies to minimize or eliminate the need for medication to treat your addiction and/or co-occurring disorders. Our clinical team has access to innovative, non-medication alternatives such as Neurofeedback and Magno-EEG Resonant Therapy (MERT), a new way to assess brain response and function. The rEEG (referenced Electroencephalogram) uses years of medication studies to help us quickly identify those medications that will best treat the individual disorders if medication is recommended.
Addiction Medications
From heroin addiction to the prescription drug addict, opiate withdrawal creates high relapse rates, sometimes requiring hospitalization. Brookside Institute uses the latest FDA approved medications including buprenorphine (Suboxone) to ease withdrawal symptoms. Naltrexone, an anti-craving medication, can help alcohol dependency and other addiction disorders. A short regimen of naltrexone may provide a critical period of sobriety, during which you can learn to stay sober without it.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Medication aids in the recovery process; when combined with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), long-term recovery is highly successful. CBT teaches you how to identify and alter destructive thought patterns and behaviors. It helps you discover and identify different ways of behaving, coping and re-framing formerly overwhelming issues. It is important to understand that the lifestyles and habits attached to addiction require major changes in your thought processes as well as behavior. At Brookside Institute you will receive individual and group therapy sessions conducted by our staff of licensed Masters level therapists, not counselors.
Adjunctive Therapy
Addiction and co-occurring disorders are destructive; to counteract this we introduce you to a wide range of adjunctive therapies, such as relapse prevention, psychodrama, creative expression, meditation and communication, techniques you can use throughout a lifetime. Proper nutrition and exercise are key aspects of healthy living and nutrition and physical fitness programs are at the core of long-term physical rehabilitation methods used at Brookside Institute. Family systems is also an integral part of the adjunctive therapies used in the Brookside Recovery Protocol ™.
